More Food!

So I had my doctor’s appointment today, and it went really well! She was very happy with the progress on my core strength, and the yoga block/neck exercises have helped a lot as my adjustment was much less painful than some have been! I also started doing neuromuscular therapy, I’ll be alternating between that and the accupressure therapy I’ve been doing. The accupressure therapy is just like über relaxing, whereas the neuromuscular therapy is a bit more intense! It was slightly painful, in the good way, like when you have a sore muscle and you massage it to try to work out the stiffness.

Now that we’ve introduced beef, dairy, and eggs, without any reaction, there isn’t really anything left to try, haha. We talked a lot about what my eating habits should look like going forward. And you probably won’t care too much about this, but I am making it a blog post for my own reference, haha.

I definitely need to be 100% gluten free. Like, basically no exceptions.

Some dairy is okay, but try not to do too much. I’m definitely going to continue with my dairy substitutes, like almond and coconut milk. If I have dairy, it will probably be a small amount of cheese, sour cream, etc…but not a lot of it.

I’ve been very careful to stay 100% organic since my allergic reaction. Which means…I’ve been eating completely organic for over 6 weeks! In some ways it seems like forever, but in other ways it seems like I just started yesterday, haha. But anyways, now that my digestive system is “reset” with the detox diet, some unorganic food is acceptable, but just not much. I am relieved to know that eating one unorganic meal isn’t going to cause a severe allergic reaction, but that also should be exception, not the rule. So I plan to buy all organic food, and just eat unorganic occasionally. It has been difficult when I am at parties or meetings where all my friends are eating and I have to bring my own food or just watch them eat! So it will be nice to be able to participate in social eating activities again! 🙂

Although grains are okay (as long as it is wheat/gluten free), I am going to try to stay pretty paleo. I definitely notice a difference when I eat carb-heavy meals as opposed to veggie and protein heavy meals.

The detox diet was also a good experience because now I know how it goes if I want to do another detox sometime. I figure that if there’s time when I can’t eat as well, for whatever reason, I can the detox afterwards to help get my system back to normal, and prevent the build-up of problems that caused my reaction.

After a very limited diet for the last 6 weeks, I am honestly excited to start experimenting with more gluten-free, paleo meals! 🙂

Health Status Update

Last week I was able to add eggs, butter, cheese, and coffee back into my diet. The eggs were the only thing my doctor thought might cause an allergic reaction. I had eggs twice last week and didn’t really notice anything.

I’ve been trying to start exercising more, I was “assigned” to do some neck exercises this weekend, along with my yoga block and wall planks. I think I’ll be getting more instructions today! I also attempted to do some cardio workouts, which was sort of an epic failure due to my incredibly bad coordination. So…I guess I just need to persevere until it gets better, but for a perfectionist like me, that will be a painful experience!

My sleep the last few nights has been okay, but not as good as it has been throughout the last month. I think I noticed it because I’ve become so used to have a really good night’s sleep! I am trying to be careful with my coffee intake, as I suspect that is causing more sleep issues than I had realized.

But on a positive note, I am definitely noticing higher energy levels! I’ve had some long work days last week, and still came home to work for several more hours, rather than crashing out of pure exhaustion. I am usually a night-owl, so having energy that lasts all day and into the evening means that I am getting back to normal.

That is all. This post was mostly for my own benefit as I am trying to keep track of how things are going with my new food introduction and such.

Peace out.

Making Progress!

Yesterday was the last day of my 28 day detox diet. I am honestly really surprised that I managed to stay so dedicated with it! There were some really tempting moments, but I am thankful for the resolve to stick with it! So today I went to my doctor to figure out where to go from here. Unfortunately my liver is not entirely cleared out, there is some slight inflammation remaining. She didn’t want me to start trying out food that would slow down the recovery process. I told her what foods I wanted most to add back into my diet, and thankfully they are all pretty clean foods that shouldn’t cause a problem. What does this mean?

I CAN DRINK COFFEE!!!! 🙂

I’ve missed my morning cup of coffee a lot, and am really excited to try it out tomorrow. However, this has been a good experience because I’ve noticed that without coffee, I am sleeping better and generally feel less nervous and stressed. I surmise that I kept drinking more coffee to give me the energy I needed, but was lacking due to these health issues. So I am going to be careful to keep it in moderation and not rely on it to get me through the day.

In addition to coffee, I can also have beef, cheese, eggs, and butter!

So today I had a delicious stir fry with eggs and pineapple. I was a bit skeptical about the pineapple, but had heard good things about it in stir fry and wanted to try it out. It was very good! It wasn’t the best stir fry ever—I had that last week—but it was pretty darn good. I liked the sweetness of the pineapple, it was a nice change. And I was happy to get in some extra protein with the eggs!

IMG_1376.JPGI will continue taking the daily probiotic supplement , basically indefinitely. And although I haven’t had many good things to say about the macronutrient powder I’ve been taking, I actually think I might buy more of it because it is a fast and easy way to get fit a meal into a busy schedule. It has come in handy when I have crazy day and no time to make food. So while it might not be an enjoyable meal, at least it is a wholesome source of nutrients! Better than not eating or stopping for fast food.

Anyways…that’s my detox update. I am off now to enjoy my butter, cheese, and coffee ; )

Day 25 of 28: A Detox Update

I am on the 25th day of my 28 day detox diet. After a couple very strict weeks, I am glad to be eating some grains and chicken again! I’ve been pretty good about having my daily macronutrients drink, despite its graininess and overall “blehness” of taste. I’m also taking a detox vitamin supplement, probiotics, and Vitamin D. I’ve seen some good improvements in my health, although my doctor was not completely happy with my inconsistent energy levels. So…I might have to do the detox diet a bit longer than 28 days. But it actually isn’t too bad, I sometimes am almost relieved to have my food options limited so much, so I don’t have to make a lot of choices! : )
